A one-day awareness program on Drive Against Drugs was organized in the Gurupadasambhava auditorium of Babu Dinesh Singh University. This program was jointly organized by Babu Dinesh Singh University and Narcotics Control Bureau, Ranchi unit.
The chief guest of this program was Mr. Naushad Alam, DIG, Palamu Division and special guests were Mr. Aman Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Garhwa, Jharkhand and Mr. Hitendra Keshav Awasthi, Unit Head, Grasim Industries Limited, Rehala, Palamu, Mr. S. Shariq Umar, Superintendent, Narcotics Control Bureau, Ranchi, Unit and Mr. Neeraj Kumar, Sub Divisional Police Officer of Garhwa. The guests were welcomed by the students with a welcome song in the program.
The program was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Special Guest, Chancellor of the University Mr. Dinesh Prasad Singh and Vice Chancellor Professor MK Singh by lighting the lamp and the Chancellor of the University presented a plant, memento and a gift to the chief guest. Honoured by giving a shawl. Welcoming all the people present in the program, the Chancellor of the University said that drug addiction is not only harmful for health but also for family, career and society. All the youth were appealed to stay away from drugs and make others aware too.
Shri Aman Kumar, who was present as a special guest in this program, said that the use of drugs is spreading very fast in the society these days. Coming out of drug addiction is a long and patient process. In this, the person needs help at physical, mental and social level. The police has issued 112 toll-free helpline number so that people can report drug addiction confidentially. So that the police administration can take necessary action on time.
In the same sequence, Mr. Hitendra Keshav Awasthi, Unit Head of Grasim Industries Limited, Rehala, Palamu, said that it is the responsibility of all sections of our society to keep children away from drugs, for this, Grasim Industries Limited and our team run health awareness programs from time to time through CSR fund to avoid drug abuse and make the society aware.
Present in the program as the chief guest, Mr. Naushad Alam, DIG, Palamu said that the whole game to get rid of drug addiction is a mind game, the day one decides in the mind that one will not do drugs, then it becomes the biggest weapon. The government is constantly concerned about the growing problem of drug addiction and is taking many sensitive steps to stop it. Efforts are being made on all three fronts of health, education and security so that the youth can be saved from the clutches of drugs. If a person is caught consuming drugs (such as ganja, opium, heroin, cocaine etc.), there is a provision of rigorous imprisonment of 10 to 20 years and a fine of ₹ 1 lakh to ₹ 2 lakh and in this program, Superintendent of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Ranchi unit Mr. S. Shariq Umar made the students and youth aware of the serious ill effects of drug addiction through his impressive presentation. He told that drug addiction not only destroys physical and mental health, but it is also fatal for the future of the family, society and nation. In his address, Shri Umar made it clear that the national drug helpline number is 1933 through which you can report drug related activities without revealing your identity, which includes drug smuggling, illegal sale, purchase, manufacture such as opium, ganja, coca. While sharing information, the identity of the reporter is kept completely confidential. He told about some harmful drugs like fentanyl, methamphetamine that even taking a very small quantity (less than 2 mg) can kill a person. There is a big risk of stopping breathing, unconsciousness, brain damage and death due to this. Therefore, he gave this message to the students that staying away from drugs is the first step towards a healthy life, strong society and developed nation. On this occasion, he also called upon the youth to take a pledge of “Leave drugs, add life”. At the end of the program, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor MK Singh thanked all the guests, principals, deans, non-teaching staff and students present in the program. The program was conducted by Assistant Professor of Nursing, Nilofer Praveen.
